The Downtown Community Alliance, in association with Greater Des Moines Partnership, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to achieve a shared vision for the future of downtown Des Moines by providing leadership, initiative, advocacy and building partnerships, and achieving shared solutions.
A consistent and constant focus on developing and maintaining a vibrant downtown core has been a mainstay in our strategy, leading to our successful regional marketing effort. The key program areas continue to be:
- Downtown development and planning
- Events and activities
- Promotion and marketing, including information about parking and access
- AND a clean, safe and beautiful environment

Pappajohn Sculpture Garden Receives Vision Iowa Grant

Governor Chet Culver announced a $1 million Vision Iowa grant to support the new John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Garden in Des Moines. The garden, appraised at nearly $30 million, will hold over 20 sculptures donated by John and Mary Pappajohn of Des Moines. Pappajohn’s gift is believed to be the single largest public donation of art in Iowa history.

New D-Line Shuttle Ridership Strong In Opening Weeks

A free shuttle service connecting the Capitol Complex and Western Gateway has seen great success since beginning operation in early May, averaging over 600 riders per day. The shuttle’s route, known as the D-Line, is a loop running west on Grand Avenue from the State Capitol to Central Campus before turning around to come back east on Locust Street.The shuttle provides continuous and fully accessible service from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The shuttle runs every 7-9 minutes, stopping as needed at unique signs that are posted at each block along the route.

Downtown Farmers’ Market Returns to Court Avenue

The Downtown Farmers’ Market will return to the Court Avenue District on Saturday, June 21 from 7 a.m. – noon. Patrons can expect to see the Market in full swing with nearly 200 vendors on site offering a wide variety of fresh produce, entertainment, prepared food, kid’s activities and much more.
