regional economic development Regionalism continues to be the watchword of our economic development program, in which working as one has been key to our success: In 2005 the economic development team was kept busy assisting companies around the nation and around the world to relocate their business to the region. As a result, ten new companies call the Greater Des Moines region home. Not only did the team bring in new business, they also kept it here as well. Twenty-two companies called us and our local development partners to assist them in their efforts to expand their operations here. As a result of these efforts in 2005, over 1,900 jobs were created or retained and nearly $247 million (yes, almost a quarter-billion dollars)was spent in new capital investment right here in the metro. Our secret? A time-tested formula that since 1999 has resulted in 58 new-company locations in the region,as well as 123 existing-company expansions. The united efforts resulted in over 10,000 new or retained jobs and $1.2 billion in new capital investment in the region. |
