regional economic development

One of our key economic growth initiatives has been the Buy Into the Circle program, launched in 2003 to encourage businesses to purchase locally from each other.

By the end of 2005:

  • Over 360 companies had pledged to shift five percent of their out-of-area spending back into the local regional economy.
  • We documented over $18 million in shifted spending to date.
  • Survey results gave us tools to transform Buy Into the Circle into a catalyst for business development opportunities.
How do we accomplish this level of success? Through a focused marketing program that includes:
  • face to face visits with businesses in targeted industries an industry-leading, dynamic and information-rich website.
  • an aggressive national public relations program and targeted promotional strategies that put Greater Des Moines business community in the national spotlight.
During 2005, the business and quality of life advantages available here were featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, ABC World New Tonight, the Associated Press and many others.
