Diversity & Inclusion Council


The purpose of the Council is to support and elevate a diverse, vibrant, and inclusive regional economy through its education, promotion, and public awareness practices that will result in a community where all have the opportunity to connect, live, learn, and thrive. 

About the Council

The Partnership's Diversity & Inclusion Council is compiled of members from the Greater Des Moines business community who are dedicated to creating inclusive corporate cultures and growing varied customer bases. The council acts as a catalyst to mobilize the business community toward a broad economic development vision that incorporates all people as valued contributors and valuable customers. The Diversity & Inclusion Council works to provide access to inclusive educational resources to all organizations in the metro. To this goal, the Partnership teams up with member organizations to host quarterly Multicultural receptions that provide opportunity to recognize inclusion initiatives within member organizations.

Individuals interested in serving on the Greater Des Moines Partnership's Diversity & Inclusion Council must be employed by a member company or organization of the Partnership. In addition, we ask that interested persons:

  • Have an interest in inclusion efforts
  • Be capable of influencing their company's policies and/or business efforts
  • Understand business needs relevant to recruitment and retention
  • Be committed to regular attendance at monthly meetings and council events
  • Council meetings are usually held the third Thursday of each month.

INclusion Magazine

In 2007, the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Business Record Publications and dsm Magazine, along with several corporate sponsors collaborated to publish INclusion, a special guide showcasing the diverse culture of Central Iowa. In August of 2012 we released the third edition of INclusion.

Reflecting the value and importance of diversity in Greater Des Moines, INclusion celebrates the rich cultural traditions of the region's African-American, African, Asian, European, Latino, and Native American residents. The magazine also includes sections on diversity in Greater Des Moines' faith community, accessibility for the disabled, opportunities for young and retired professionals and Central Iowa's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered communities.

The Partnership and area employers use INclusion to help attract and retain a diverse workforce in the community. Publication of the guide is funded by the city's major employers.
