“CHANGE YOUR VIEW” CAMPAIGN WINS NATIONAL AND LOCAL AWARDS

GREATER DES MOINES – When the Greater Des Moines Partnership launched the “Change Your View” community campaign last October, it was described as “not your typical chamber of commerce song and dance.” The 2000 American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) Awards for Communications Excellence (ACE Awards) have now distinguished the campaign not just as “atypical,” but as outstanding, by honoring the Partnership with nine ACE Awards including a Grand Award, one of only six awarded nationally this year.

Winners of the 2000 awards were announced via the organization’s website this week.

The “Change Your View” campaign was launched to differentiate Greater Des Moines from other booming U.S. cities. The national advertising campaign is still underway and seeks to change existing perspectives of the metro area by inviting people to “change their view” and see the opportunities and lifestyle advantages that Greater Des Moines has to offer.

As a national member organization for chamber of commerce professionals, ACCE recognizes the importance of chamber communications and those professionals who excel in the communications field. The ACE Award grades entries based on a 100-point system rather than against other entries submitted from communities across the country. ACCE recruited communication specialists from the corporate sectoras well as the chamber world to judge the entries.

The judges’ comments on the campaign materials included, “it completely changes my perspective of the city,” and “it’s freshness, humor, and unpredictability would make anyone consider a move to Des Moines.”

Their responses indicate the Partnership’s goal of changing people’s view of what a Midwestern city can be has been met.

The Ace Awards will be presented during ACCE’s Management Symposium in Nashville on March 16, 2001.

The ACCE announcement follows an awards ceremony held Friday, February 9 in Des Moines by the Advertising Professionals of Des Moines. The Partnership and Meyocks & Priebe Advertising received three ADDYs and eight Citations of Excellence for “Change Your View” campaign materials.

The 2000 local ADDY awards will be forwarded to the American Advertising Federation Ninth District ADDY competition to compete in April against winning entries from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas. Ninth District competition award winners then go on to compete in the national ADDY competition in June honoring work from across the country.
