downtown development
A consistent and constant focus on developing and maintaining a vibrant
downtown core has been a mainstay in our strategy, leading
to our successful regional marketing effort. The key program
areas continue to be
- Downtown development and planning
- Events and activities
- Promotion and marketing, including information
about parking and access
- and a clean, safe and beautiful environment
The Downtown Community Alliance advocated for a wide variety of downtown projects in 2005, ranging from housing
to commercial development resulting in 126 new housing units in 2005, an additional 336 under construction for
completion in 2006 and commitments for over 2000 new jobs over the next few years. We also helped to establish
two downtown Cultural Entertainment Districts to promote further development while preserving the architecture and history of the Court
Avenue and East Village neighborhoods.
