regional community vision
During 2005 we worked with our community partners to advance Project Destiny,
the blueprint for our regional vision. It flourishes today because of community
ownership and governmental support of our proposed initiatives.
In 2005,each of Project Destiny ’s regional platforms advanced:
- Arts &Culture; – Additional public dollars were earmarked to support arts and
culture, and a regional Public Arts Commission was created.
- Recreation – Phase one of the Meredith Trail was completed, Principal Riverwalk
progressed significantly, a regional trails map was delivered and $17 million in federal
dollars was appropriated for regional trails.
- Human Capital – The Human Services Planning Alliance received continued support,
and Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and the Iowa General Assembly formally declared early childhood education a priority.
- Lifelong Learning – The Des Moines Higher Education Collaborative delivered
ongoing educational and professional development opportunities.
