Sustainability Lunch & Learn: Opportunities, Challenges and Legal Parameters for Historic and Downtown Buildings
Posted: Monday, August 29, 2011
The Partnership is pleased to partner with the Center on Sustainable Communities to bring you the Sustainability Lunch & Learn on Thursday, September 8, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
The topic will explore how historic properties provide ideal opportunities for re-development, but they can also come with unique challenges. In this workshop, Mike Nelson of Nelson Construction and Development shares his insight on his Downtown Des Moines revitalization projects that include AP Lofts and the Liberty Hyatt, plus new-construction project e300. Learn about incentives and trade-offs his team faced within the construction and historic preservation processes. Larry James Jr. of Hogan Law Office provides a perspective on the legal issues surrounding the use of the state and federal historic tax credits and "green" leases.
The cost is $15 per person for members of COSC and Greater Des Moines Partnership; $25 for non-members. The workshop will be held at the Greater Des Moines Partnership's Arthur Davis Conference Center, 700 Locust St., Ste. 100, Downtown Des Moines.
