Posted: Tuesday, July 12, 2011
Presidential candidate, Congressman Thaddeus McCotter, has committed to appear in the 2012 Presidential Candidate Speaker Series sponsored by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Mediacom and IowaPolitics.com in partnership with the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Congressman McCotter will speak Thursday, July 28, 2011, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the State Historical Building, 600 East Locust Street in downtown Des Moines.
“Iowans are intensely proud and passionate of their role in helping to select our nation’s leader every four years,” said Martha Willits, CEO and President of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “Our ‘first in the nation’ status also carries great responsibility to become acquainted with the candidates, educated on the issues, and vocal on the issues important to Iowa voters. That’s why we are pleased to partner with local and statewide groups to host this Des Moines-area series.”
As the first in the nation caucus, Iowa falls under a global spotlight, and an open invitation will be extended to prospective presidential candidates to address Central Iowans as part of the series between now and the 2012 Presidential Caucuses. Lynn Campbell of IowaPolitics.com, which is owned by the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, will serve as the moderator for the series.
“The Franklin Center is once again honored to be able to participate in such an important event. The previous Romney event demonstrated how valuable these forums are to not only the candidates but the voting public,” said Franklin Center President Jason Stverak. “At the Franklin Center, we are always telling the news. Now we have the opportunity to help make the news.”
The event is free of charge and open to the public, but reservations are requested to ensure adequate accommodations for the event. Attendees may register at www.desmoinesmetro.com/events. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions via social media on the Partnership Facebook (Greater Des Moines Partnership) and Twitter (DesMoinesMetro) sites.
Free parking is available at the adjacent parking ramp located north of Grand Avenue from the Historical Building. Media and event inquiries should be directed to Lauren Burt at (515) 286-4947 or by email to email@example.com.
