Janet Green Named Executive Director of East Des Moines Chamber of Commerce

The East Des Moines Chamber of Commerce (EDMC) Board of Directors has hired Janet Green as its first full-time Executive Director, beginning May 15, 2008. Green is a Des Moines native and past president of the East Des Moines Chamber. She has worked as Community Marketing Director for the Greater Des Moines Partnership for the past eight years.

"As we approached this transition, our board discussed whether to create an entry level position or find someone who could be strategic in their leadership," said Jim Goodman, President of the EDMC and President of Customer Ease/Emerging Growth Group. "The level of opportunity on the East Side really called for an experienced, strategic individual. We are very appreciative that the Partnership allowed us to take one of their valuable assets as our own, knowing it was in the best interest of East Des Moines and the Chamber."

"The East Des Moines Chamber is well positioned for a successful transition year with Janet in the Executive Director seat," said Martha Willits, President & CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. "We're confident they will continue to be a valuable regional partner as we work together to address issues of economic and workforce development."

Green, who is also a long-time East Side resident, said, "I'm thrilled to begin working on behalf of the East Des Moines Chamber. The East Side business community has had many successes, and there are many opportunities for future growth. I look forward to providing both leadership and support as the Chamber maximizes those opportunities for the benefit of the entire region."

Partnership Receives 2008 Business & Industry Award from Des Moines Human Rights Commission

Members of the Partnership¹s Diversity Committee

The Greater Des Moines Partnership has received the 2008 Business & Industry Award from the Des Moines Human Rights Commission.

The award honors individuals, non-profit organizations or government agencies that have had a positive impact on human rights in the Des Moines area. The Partnership¹s Multicultural receptions and topical lunch-and-learn
programs were recognized by the Commission as "providing opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to gather together for learning and community change possibilities," said Commission Chair Nancy Bobo. "These
events nourish a positive spirit in the Greater Des Moines Community."

Partnership President & CEO Martha Willits accepted the award at the Commission¹s Annual Symposium Luncheon held April 16.

"The Partnership is thrilled to accept this award from the Human Rights Commission," Willits said. "We believe the work we do which fosters inclusion and celebrates the diversity of this community is important to the economic success of the entire region. Through the tremendous leadership of our Diversity Committee, we are happy to partner with the Commission in expanding our efforts in this area."
