Central Iowa celebrated Shawn Johnson and Coach Liang Chow’s Olympic success Tuesday, August 26, with a homecoming event at Wells Fargo Arena that drew over 8,000 fans, friends, and family. The spectacular also attracted dozens of photographers and reporters and was carried live by the Des Moines NBC affiliate, WHO TV. This was Shawn Johnson’s first public appearance in Iowa following the Olympics and a spot on David Letterman.

Pappajohn Sculpture Garden Receives Vision Iowa Grant

Governor Chet Culver announced a $1 million Vision Iowa grant to support the new John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Garden in Des Moines. The garden, appraised at nearly $30 million, will hold over 20 sculptures donated by John and Mary Pappajohn of Des Moines. Pappajohn’s gift is believed to be the single largest public donation of art in Iowa history.
