Other Resources OnlineAfrican American Business Association The African-American Business Association of Des Moines, Iowa’s mission is to advocate and promote the development of African-American owned businesses with the goal of creating a firm economic base that support the self-determination and survival of the African-American community. ALIANZA Latino Business Association The mission of ALIANZA: Latino Business Association is to promote the success of Des Moines-area Hispanic-owned businesses through education, networking opportunities, and by serving as a link to and for the Hispanic market. Commission on the Status of Iowans of Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage The mission of the Commission on the Status of Iowans of Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage (CAPI) is to advise the governor and the general assembly in order to empower Asians and Pacific Islanders, improve their well-being, and celebrate a diverse Iowa. Deaf Services Commission of Iowa Originally established as the governor’s Spanish-speaking task force through legislative action on April 1974. At the time its primary mission was to study the issues facing Spanish-Speaking persons. Division of Persons with Disabilities The Division of Persons with Disabilities exists to promote the employment of Iowans with disabilities and reduce barriers to employment by providing information, referral, assessment and guidance, training, and negotiation services to employers and citizens with disabilities. Iowa Commission on the Status of African Americans The mission is to improve the quality of life for Iowa's African-American population. Iowa Commission on the Status of Women The Iowa Commission on the Status of Women (ICSW) is a state agency that seeks to assure equality for Iowa women. The ICSW advocates for Iowa women, working to equalize women's opportunities and to promote full participation by women in the economic, political, and social life of the state. The Iowa Department for the Blind specializes in integrated services that blind and severely visually impaired Iowans need to live independently and work competitively. Iowa Department of Human Rights The mission is to ensure that every Iowan is equally protected and respected. Iowa Department of Human Services DHS – Bureau of Refugee Services A part of the U.S. Refugee Program, the department helps displaced persons resettle in Iowa. Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services The mission of the Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services is to work for and with individuals who have disabilities to achieve their employment, independence and economic goals. To educate individuals and corporate members of the community on issues related to immigration, workforce development, cultural diversity, small business programs, economic development assistance, and referral. Young Professionals Connection YPC's mission is to promote an environment that attracts and retains young professionals in Greater Des Moines. Our efforts focus on connecting YP's to each other and to the community through social, civic, charitable, & professional development endeavors. |
