Jay and Eugene Join the Bike Ride

Metro-area business leaders celebrated National Bike to Work and National Employee Health & Fitness Weeks with a lunchtime bike ride through downtown on Tuesday.  Partnership Chief Executive Officer Jay Byers and President Gene Meyer joined the ride to try out the Des Moines Bicycle Collective’s bike share program, known as B-Cycle.  Downtown Community Alliance is a sponsor of both Bike to Work and the B-Cycle program.

Announcing 2013 Environmental Impact Award Winners

DART Central Station, Oakridge Neighborhood Teen Center, The ReWall Company, LLC, Unity Point Health - Des Moines, City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation, and Iowa Legal Aid were all honored at the 2013 Environmental Impact Awards today. The Environmental Impact Awards were established in 2011 to recognize organizations and leaders who exemplify environmentally sustainable practices.

Wrapping Up DM/DC 2013

About 190 of Central Iowa’s business, civic and regional community leaders traveled to our nation’s capital and presented a public policy agenda to promote regional policy priorities and economic development projects during the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s 34th annual advocacy trip to Washington, D.C., May 8-10, 2013. Throughout the three-day trip, participants had an opportunity to advocate for key issues facing the Central Iowa region. Participants met with members of Iowa’s Congressional delegation, the Administration, and their staffs. The Partnership hosted two Congressional Leadership Luncheons featuring Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and a brunch featuring Secretary Arne Duncan from the U.S. Department of Education. There was also a dinner hosted by the Greater Des Moines Partnership Regional Affiliates at Clydes. Workshops focused on education, housing, health and wellness, immigration, and arts and culture.

Youth Leadership Initiative Class Of 2012-13 Graduating On May 20!

Greater Des Moines’ Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) congratulates the YLI Class of  2012-13 on the upcoming graduation ceremony, scheduled for May 20.  YLI, a workforce development and education program of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, provides sophomore or junior high school students experiential mentoring and leadership experiences that enhance self-esteem and encourage involvement in all levels of community life.
